Projects & Activities
SAGE has a variety of activities planned for Spring Semester 2006. If you'd like to get involved or have other ideas for SAGE-sponsored activities, please email us.
Check back frequently for updates on upcoming events, as well as exciting photos/details from events we've already held!
Fundraising activities:
- Scrabble competition. Tentatively scheduled for the last week in March.
- Valentine Cards. We are selling Literary Valentine Cards near the McKinley entry to Robert Bell for $1 each on February 13-14.
- T-Shirts. We will be selling English Department t-shirts, as well as sponsoring a departmental contest for the shirt designs. Winning design will receive a free shirt; deadline to submit a deadline is February 28.
Social & Community Building Activities:
- Coffeehouse Nights at MT Cup. Join SAGE members at MT Cup (in the Village) on Wednesday nights at 7pm for warm beverages, conversation, and reading/studying. A great opportunity to get to know some of your fellow grad students in a laid-back environment; feel free to bring work along with you, or just come for a break. Friends and guests welcome.
- Literary Readings. SAGE will be sponsoring a literary reading on Wednesday, February 22 at MT Cup; read some of your own work or your favorites by other authors.
- Shopping Excursions. Join SAGE members on a shopping trip: possible destinations include downtown Indianapolis or Castleton Square Mall.
- Literary Movie Night. Your chance to see "Englishy" movies with other grad students; both older movies and newer releases. The first Literary Movie Night was a great success as we gathered to watch The Girl with the Pearl Earring. The next Movie Night will be Friday, March 31 at 7pm at 505 S. Varsity Avenue. The film will be Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
- BSU Art Museum visit. Make time to see the Modernist painting & drawing exhibition visiting Ball State's Art Museum this year. SAGE will be sponsoring a departmental "visit" to the exhibition on February 17th. To join us, meet outside the art museum at 2:30pm.
- Bloomington Library Visit. Need some research resources that Ball State's library just doesn't have? Come with us to Bloomington on March 17. RSVP to sage@bsu.edu by February 24 to reserve your space in our van.
- Poker Nights. Play poker and relax with your fellow graduate students; April 15 at 7:30pm.
- Faculty/Student Mixer. Hang out with fellow grad students and your professors in a casual environment. April 27, 4:30-6:40 at the Virginia Ball Center.
- Laser tag. Play laser tag with other grad students, further info TBA.
*All activities are tentative until dates are officially agreed upon and approved at a SAGE meeting.
